Moving on from there and coming to the real purpose of this article. I would like to recommend an improvement regime to all the readers which should help you gain momentum and understand where you actually going wrong while attempting RCs.
So how do you go about it then?
Phase 1 : Attempting a RC
Set a timer : 7.5 minutes should be an ideal average timer for starters. You should aim for a 5-6 minutes per RC range in the final lap of this pursuit.
Attempt the RC : In this allotted time, you must read the RC, look at the questions and attempt as you would in the exam as when it shows 00 : 00 : 00, you must STOP right there.
Phase 2 : Analyzing your attempt
Probably the most important details of this article lies begins in this phase of your RC regime.
Firstly, write down the time taken, total questions , attempted and correct : the usual analysis parameters.
Secondly, read the paragraph again but this time it would be a different kind of reading.
You need to write in 1-2 lines the following details about the RC :
Topic and Scope : Gather your thought about the content and write what's the author's main agenda and to which domain/scope/region/demography he/she targets it at if that is comprehensible from the RC
Paragraph wise mapping : Here you write down the main discussion focus of that particular para.
Tying any loose ends : Write in a line or two what seems to have been unexplored(this part of the paragraph will test your complete understanding of the passage) if there is any.
Phase 3 : Analyzing your answering pattern
Here you need to know about some prerequisites : What type of options exist in the questions?
Most questions attached to the RC can be inspected through these filters and help you judge where you go wrong and subsequently help you improve.
Opposite/Contrary : Here the option statement is contrary or opposite to the facts stated in the paragraph.
If you are picking this option too often, you lack proper comprehension.
Reason for error : Lack of taste in subject matter is the prime reason for picking this option.
Plan of Action : Read more articles on the related subject matter. For such specific need, your best source should be Featured Articles on Wikipedia.
Out of Scope : This option statement states or proposes something beyond the agenda that passage focuses on.
Reason for error : Again a lack of comprehension but on a more specific level.
Plan of action : Go through the question stem again, refer your para-wise mapping and see where you really went wrong.
Out of Scale : The guest appearance in some movies of your RC, this one converts a specific discussion to a general one or vice-versa. You generally wouldn't fall for this one.
Distortion : Oh the villain of your movie and as no movie is complete without a deadly villain, a good RC question is not so good without this being there to injure your accuracy rate.
Skipping some assumption, stating the extreme to a mentioned statement and reaching unwarranted conclusions are the skills of this villain. Beware of this deadly beast and your accuracy shall improve.
